Conference Overview

AGIFORS' 61st Annual Symposium will go virtual on September 20 – 23, 2021.

The airline industry is just recovering from the dramatic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This pandemic has also created an opportunity to bring about changes in business models, planning, operations, and revenue management practices in the industry – all supported by advanced analytics. The AGIFORS Symposium provides a platform for airline experts and decision makers to come together and exchange ideas. At the Symposium, speakers and attendees will share their recent experiences on how the industry has been responding and recovering from the COVID-19 crisis and share analytical models they developed for their respective stakeholders. These experts come from airlines, air transport associations, universities, industrial research labs, vendors, and consulting firms. Many throughout the airline industry and beyond have expressed interest in learning about the changes, some temporary and some more permanent, which the pandemic has brought about – for example, some learnings from the AGIFORS operations conference held online in 2020, was featured in the February issue of the OR/MS Today magazine (click HERE to read the article).

Sponsors

The policy of AGIFORS for all their meetings is to have the registration fee for Airline staff and Academics as low as possible. The philosophy behind this is that academics are likely to enter new lines of thought into our field, and having a strong presence by airlines brings great value to both the vendors and the airlines. Therefore we are very happy to have found below organizations as sponsors for this year's event:

Cirium
Gurobi
Passur Aerospace
Rosterize
SlickOR
Zulu Airline Systems

    Virtual conference logistics

The online format will necessitate some key changes for this year’s symposium. In particular, we will need to impose strict deadlines in order to give our production engineer time to prepare presentations in a format that facilitates broadcasting in our online meeting platform.  Individuals submitting abstracts will be asked to confirm that they will submit a pre-recorded presentation (following instructions here) by September 10, 2021 and will make themselves available to test their video and sound equipment with our production engineer prior to the conference.

If there is a high demand to give technical presentations, we will select some of the accepted presentations for the main program (that includes a live broadcast and live Q&A session) and make the other accepted presentations available to members as part of an offline supplemental program (that can be downloaded and viewed by conference attendees).  Presentations will be selected by a review committee that will consider multiple factors and ensure the program represents a diversity of technical areas and analytical techniques. Presentations related to Covid-19 will receive priority for the live broadcast portion of the program.

More information on the logistics will be forthcoming.
